'Initially influenced by theories of spectatorship, my artwork explores the activity of looking and being looked at and is based upon ideas of 'the gaze', John Berger's text 'ways of seeing' and my own feelings towards perception within relationships.'

'Figures in paintings are often passive and there to be analysed, however, with my images I aim to reverse this gaze and dominate the audience. My painting techniques underpin the effect of my work. Researching iconic images of the 1950's woman, I have adopted a slick, glossy and controlled style of painting suggestive of magazine advertisements. I also use inks and seeping dyes and paints that contrasts this slick surface, emphasising the depth, shadows and perspective of the image.'
